or Windows covered up by paint?

                                                                them to their original beauty!
Reasons for paint removal.
1.  Reasons for requiring paint removal are to present a new or almost new
exterior condition of the wood or metal surface.
3. To remove Lead based or other deteriorating paint due to possible health
for or environmental concerns.
2.  To have a new base surface for the new paint job. After many years of
painting there is an accumulation of many paint  layers and different kinds/
types of paint. It is to your advantage to remove these. They are in various
deteriorating stages at different times. Your surface will be in an almost and
constant state of paint degradation resulting in the new paint job not lasting
as long as it should if these are not removed.
Paint Scraping kit. Professional Kit. 3. To continue the preservation of historic
building exterior and interior wood surfaces
and fittings and details. Stripping allows you to
have a nice new surface free of an older already
deteriorating paint on it's surface
Choosing a method for your project.
1. Abrasive Paint Removal methods include,
using Hand tools such as various size Putty
knives, Scrapers, and Mechanical Sanders.
Professional Scraping Kit    Sand paper and sponges do not really work that
for Historical Houses,             well at paint removal. They are better suited to
and Window and Door           roughing up the surface in preparation for
Restorations.                            painting. However sand paper by itself is good
for feathering the edges where spot paint removal has been used. Some types
of sanders include Orbital, Belt and Rotary. The first 2 are for wood projects
and the Rotary tools are move often used for metal projects. Belt sanders
and Rotary tools are best used by personnel that have experience with tools.
Blasting is an excellent method for removing paint and/or stain. It is the
recommended method for removing stain from log cabins to prep for painting.
Using corncob as the blasting media is environmentally safe and does not
damage the surface of the logs. Water blasting for paint removal in commercial
applications is great but for residential applications is not recommended.

2. Chemical Paint Removal methods include Solvent based strippers, and
Caustic strippers. Solvent based strippers can be thin or paste like to used on
the different surfaces. They can be messy, but work very well. Caustic
strippers are the best method of removing paint but should be used by Professionals only. Most use
the dip method. After being dipped they must be neutralized with a mild acid
solution. If this is not completed then any new paint coating will fail. When
using either method make sure and use goggles or safety glasses, Appropriate gloves
and clothing. Follow all safety precautions.

3. Thermal Paint Removal methods include the Blow Torch, Heat gun and the
Heat plate. Heat plates can be used on large surfaces. They do not vaporize
the surface so they are safe from an environmental point. Used properly, Heat
Guns are great for most smaller or intricate projects. The Blow torch is no
longer recommended on buildings due to the fact that lead based paint will
vaporize at the high temps releasing toxic fumes that can be unknowingly
inhaled. Heat plates and heat guns are generally safer.

Always use the recommended safety devices for your tools, materials, and
projects
