Real Estate Agents: In addition to quality, we realize your time and your clients time is the main consideration when getting a home, or commercial property ready for market. Did the last occupants leave a wreck. "We can haul it ". Many times we can start the same day the home owner or occupant moves out. We can do as much, or as little work as is required.
In this day of foreclosures, did the previous owner leave a mess to be dealt with. We can do the Interior, Exterior, Lawn painting, clean up, pressure washing, and general repairs. Heck, we'll do the windows if you want us to.
Bank Foreclosures: These homes are found in many states of repair or disrepair. We do tear outs of carpeting, Cabinetry, trash and Debris, and haul off all miscellaneous items left over from previous occupants. We provide lots of home repairs and of course painting, carpentry, and much, much more.
Products We Recommend: Most customers upon going to the Paint store are overwhelmed with all the choices in Color, Sheen and Types of products. Do I want oil or latex? Should I paint or stain concrete? Whats on my house now, and why is that important? Why is the deck peeling it was just completed last summer?
There are a lot of excellent paints on the market, Valspar, Olympic, Porter, Sherwin Williams, Bher, Glidden, and others. The problem for the consumer is the numerous types and grades of, just for example, Interior wall paint. How do you know whats right for your home. We recommend all our customers use a regular paint store. Professional Paint stores will keep a file on all the painting completed on your home or business for you, and not only you, they'll keep it for the home owner before you and after you. They are much more customer oriented than the big box stores and receive a lot of training on their products, not just sales. We normally use Porter Paints, Sherwin Williams, ICI Glidden, Home Depot and Lowes. You can also get a sample from one store and color match it at another, in the product of your choice.
Here at Brilliant Coatings we stay on top of new products, and services so you don't have to. Here is a few of the products we use daily and strongly recommend. We stress to the do it yourself customer: "Always read and adhere to all label directions, and safety precautions".
Crawford's Putty - Used to fill all those small nail holes in trim work. Look for the Orange can. Do not use
the old style oil based putties as the oil may bleed through to the surface of water based paints. Use
Crawford and then prime, and topcoat. Sometimes when using the putty untrained personnel find it hard
to achieve a perfectly flat surface. If this happens to you then switch to the Spackling Paste, and
sand when dry.
TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate - Best general cleaner we use and great for Mildew stains. Read and follow
directions prior to use. Do not use on windows.
Zinnsser stain killer - Oil or alcohol based products are wonderful stuff. In fact we've never met a stain
(and we've met a lot of stains) that we could not cover using these products. We never use any of the latex
(water based) stain killers, their basically useless.
Zinsser Dif - Wallpaper remover liquid - It's great stuff. Use hot, hot water - or of course call us.
Zinsser Wall paper primer - Please use this prior to installing wallpaper, it makes it sooooo much easier.
Also it's great to use on top of the wall paper when painting over.
SilkenTouch - Quality product comes in flat,eggshell, satin and semi-gloss. An excellent choice for high
traffic areas, -hall/stairways, kitchen, baths, and kids rooms.
Vinyl Flat Porter Paints Interior -What we use most for interior painting for a flat finish. A Long
lasting, durable paint.
Bonding Primer- used to bridge interior oil to acrylic paint systems, and masking dark colors or multi-
colored backgrounds.
Permanizer Coating by Porter Paints - Exterior - Replaces the old way of painting by being self priming,
therefore, you only have to apply 2 coats versus 3 the old way (primer and 2 topcoats). Comes with
a Lifetime warranty. About twice as thick as the average exterior paint. Remains elastic throughout
it's lifetime. Low temp application down to 35 degrees. Expensive but worth it. We use
this product on new siding, or stucco only.
Acri - Shield Exterior Acrylic, By Porter Paints - A 100% Acrylic paint. Outstanding
exterior paint, super adhesion we've been using it for years. Superior for Wood, Hardi
Plank, Brick, Stucco, and more.
Acri Shield Bonding Primer Exterior- Bonding primer used to bridge from Oil painted surfaces
to Acrylic surfaces. Great for old chalky surfaces. If you do not know what you are
painting over use this primer as it will cover both oil and latex paints for a latex top coat.
Bher Premium Exterior Stain by Home Depot -What we recommend for residential customers. 1 or 2
coat application.
Wood Scapes Exterior Stain by Sherwin Williams - Recommended for commercial application and
residential customers who require a longer life stain. 2 coat application.
The Gripper Primer- Wonderful all purpose, interior/exterior primer. It's in all our trailers. Priced right
and does the job.
Bondo From Home Solutions - is a great product for home use. Easy to mix. Dries to a sandable hardness
in minutes. Fills any size hole and hardens harder than the original wood.
Bher Premium Interior wall Paints -We have found Bher works well, and is generally up to
the standard of Porter Paints.
Floetrol & Penetrol - Respectively, for latex and oil based paints these additives are for conditioning
paint with out thinning. Use these instead of water or thinner. Mix well.
Wood Hardener - An everyday use item when working with wood exteriors. Restores wood that
has softened with aging, or for small rotted areas that can be repaired instead of replaced. Just clean
all loose deterioration, and paint or pour onto wood and allow to dry. May take more than 1 coat. Area
must be dry when applying. Then use Bondo epoxy.
Wooster brushes and Rollers - The best application products are Wooster hands down. Cleaned properly,
they last for years, even with daily use. Their Lambs wool roller sleeves are easily the best
quality and longest lasting on market. Quality applicators always d more product thus making
the job go faster. Wooster brushes are designed for tight detail work, even the larger ones.
We recommend the 2 1/2" sash brush for beginners, the 3 1/8" straight brush for experienced painters
and whats called a 3" fatty for professional use. The brushes carried at Lowes and Home Depot are not
the top grade, Hoover paint store and Sherwin Williams has a great selection of the top grade Wooster
brushes, and roller sleeves. Remember to clean your roller sleeves prior to the first use and never
use a new roller for shiny latex or oil based paints. Also do not waste your time trying to clean a
roller used for painting oil based paints. Use an older one and then dispose of properly.
Flood Products - We always recommend this for the transparent sealer when completing decks, & Fences.
Cabot Stains - Our recommended product for semi-transparent stains.

In addition to our normal repair or replacement of rotted/deteriorated wood on the exterior. This porch located at 3108 Meadow Hill Dr. was damaged from the recent Tornadoes and had to be rebuilt. After letting cure for a minimum of 30 days we primed and painted using Porter Paints "Exterior Oil based Semi Gloss Alkyd paint".
